Finals Information - Trimester 2 2019-20 INCLUDING INCLEMENT WEATHER PLANS IF NEEDED

WESTFIELD HIGH SCHOOL - TRIMESTER 2

FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

**If we would have INCLEMENT WEATHER on Thursday, February 13th.  We would follow THIS PLAN.**

We will operate under the same structure for our finals as was implemented last year.  Students will have one final on Tuesday, February 11th and then have two exams on Wednesday, February 12th and two on Thursday, February 13th.  See the schedule included below for clarification.

With our final exam schedule, ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY ONLY, students may leave campus after those two day’s finals are complete (APPROXIMATELY 12:51 on Wednesday and 12:21 on Thursday).  Bus transportation will be provided at that time.  If a student stays until the regular dismissal time at 3:45, he/she will need to provide their own transportation home (pick up will be at Door #13).

If you would prefer to have your student stay the full day to prepare for exams at school, you will need to fill out the Google Form to let us know they will be staying for lunch and will be in attendance for the supervised study sessions.  Buses are leaving school immediately following exams on these exam days. Students will need to provide their own transportation if they are staying all day.  Please talk over the options with your son or daughter and make plans accordingly. We will not be having office hours with teachers on Thursday, as it is the end of the trimester.  Office hours will be available on Wednesday only. Students who stay for the whole day on Thursday will need to come with a book or quiet activity to do that afternoon. The Testing Center WILL BE OPEN for those students making up finals on Wednesday AND Thursday until 3:45 pm, and again, students will need to provide their own transportation if they are staying to complete assessments in the Testing Center (pick up is at Door #13).

Final Exam Week Information and FAQ:

  • All students are expected to be in attendance for the full day on Tuesday, February 11th.
  • If students plan to stay for the full day on Wednesday and/or Thursday, parents should complete this form and will have to provide their own transportation at dismissal time at 3:45 pm (pick up is at Door #13). Please note that by signing your student up using this document, you understand that your student must be in attendance for the entire school day.  Please complete this form by 3 p.m. on Monday, February 10th so we can prepare the correct number of lunches and provide adequate supervision.
  • Buses will provide transportation to and from school as soon as finals are complete (12:51 pm on Wednesday; 12:21 pm on Thursday).  Students who are leaving campus at the end of the day (3:45 pm) will need to have their own transportation (pick up is at Door #13).  Students may NOT leave and then return. Students who wish to prepare for finals off campus will be responsible for their own lunch.
  • To protect the testing environment, no students will be called out during scheduled exam times.
  • Teachers will be available to students via Canvas, email, and in person to answer questions during office hours.
  • Students staying for the blood drive on Thursday, February 13th will NOT need to fill out the Google Form.

What will students do during a study/office session?

Students must use the study session to prepare for their upcoming final exams.  No games (card, board, or video) will be allowed. Students will work quietly in assigned seating.  Students are allowed to use headphones for listening to music.

Can any student eat lunch at school?

Yes, any student may stay and eat lunch at school.  However, to be able to provide appropriately for food and for supervision, parents must OPT-IN for this option by filling out this form.  Parents must fill out a form for each one of their students.  Students may leave following lunch but must provide their own transportation.  If they opt to stay all day and study on campus, students will be responsible for their own transportation home at 3:45 pm (pick up is at Door #13).

What if a student doesn’t have a final for one of the exam periods? (i.e. Senior Seminar, Peer Mentoring, Co-op, etc.)

If a student does not have an exam in one of their classes, then they do NOT need to attend during that final exam period.  Parents do not need to call into the attendance line. Students do not need to sign out.

Can students leave the final exam period once they have completed their test?

No.  Students will not be allowed to leave school during a final exam period unless it is an emergency and permission has been given by the administration.

Can a student take final exams early?

No.  Any student who does not complete their finals during the scheduled times will make-up their finals once they return to school. No final exams are given early. Please contact Assistant Principal Alicia Denniston if you know your student(s) will not be in attendance for final exams.

What if my student is sick during final exams?

In order for a student to be excused from their final exam due to illness, they must provide medical documentation to the Attendance Office. If the student doesn’t have a doctor’s note excusing them from school, they are expected to come in to be seen by the school nurse.  If the school nurse finds the student to be too ill to attend, the absence will be considered medically excused. If the school nurse finds the student well enough to attend, the student will be expected to stay and take the final. If the medical documentation is provided and the student is feeling better before the end of the week, they are allowed to make-up their exam/s in the Testing Center.  If unable to test during the week of finals, the student will take the exam/s when they are well enough to return. This may require entering a zero for the student’s final exam until it is complete. Students who are not medically excused and/or have not been approved through administration to take finals at a later date will receive a zero for their final exam.

Again, any questions on finals and attendance should be directed to Assistant Principal Alicia Denniston.

The Testing Center will be open on Wednesday until 3:45pm, Thursday until 3:45pm and on Friday, February 14th  from 8:45am-12:30pm for make-up finals. Students do not need to sign up in Enriching Students to come to the Testing Center during these times.  If students are too ill to complete finals by Friday, they should plan to sign up in Enriching Students for the Testing Center to take missed finals immediately upon their return.

Respectfully,
