Weather Cancellation Policy

  • WWS Weather Delay/Closing Information for 2020-21

    2-hour Delay Building Start Times:

Bell schedule: 2-hour delay (Buses will arrive approximately 2 hours later than normal)

    Elementary - 9:50 am

    WIS/WMS - 10:45 am

    WHS - 10:35 am

Thank you for your patience during local inclement weather events.  Please know that all decisions related to weather delays, closings or early dismissals are made in the best interest of the safety of WWS students and staff.  While weather can be unpredictable, we take great care with our decision making process. During inclement weather events, WWS strives to communicate decisions as soon as possible so that childcare or transportation arrangements can be made. We recognize the inconvenience these times can cause, and we thank you again for your patience! P

PARENTS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION-MAKERS!
When the majority of our buses can traverse roads safely, we'll be in school. However, no central decision can anticipate every condition in all areas of our district. We respect parents' decisions if you choose to keep your child home due to weather conditions.

E-LEARNING WILL TAKE PLACE WHEN SCHOOL IS CANCELLED
When school is cancelled for any reason, our default response is to immediately deploy an e-learning day during which all students will have remote learning for that day—unless otherwise noted in school communications from the district.

On school closure e-learning days, each school will communicate with students/parents regarding details of when assignments will be posted, etc.  Watch for details from your school. These e-learning days are always surprises and planning challenges for our teaching staff, so we default to asynchronous (not live teaching on ZOOM or similar).

Should e-learning days not work out for all missed instructional days that are not waived by the state of Indiana, the superintendent or designee will indicate the required make-up days and their location(s) on the school calendar.

    COMMUNICATION VEHICLES

We will communicate with you via our messaging service through text, voicemail and email.  Delay and closure notices are also shared on our district pages on Twitter and Facebook as well as on the district website.  The local television stations will also share our closing or delay information.  Please be sure your emergency contact information is up to date in PowerSchool and the methods in which you want to be communicated with are correct. Contact your school secretary if you need assistance logging into PowerSchool.

DELAY/CLOSURE DECISIONS ARE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING FACTORS

    • Weather patterns
    • Road conditions
    • Temperature/wind chill factors
    • Accumulation/precipitation
    • Building conditions
    • Transportation effectiveness

There is NO Developmental Preschool in the event of a 2-hour delay OR a school closure

    BAC/TOTS

Unless Hamilton County declares a state of emergency, BAC will open at 6:45 am at each school, unless a specific location has been communicated.
