Your Dollars at Work

Clear Finances. Responsible Stewardship. Strong Schools. Excellence for Westfield.

Transparency with our community matters.

This page is designed to share how school funding works in Indiana, how local property taxes support schools, and how potential future funding decisions may impact students, families, staff, homeowners, and the broader Westfield community.

As conversations continue around a possible future operating referendum, we know our community has important questions. After all, our community has approved and trusted us with operating referendums in 2022, 2016, and 2010 as well as a construction referendum in 2017. Our goal is to provide clear, factual, and accessible  information that helps residents stay informed.

  • For families with students in our schools, these conversations connect directly to the educational experiences, opportunities, supports, and environments students experience every day.
  • For residents without students currently enrolled, these conversations connect to broader community topics such as property values, workforce development, community stability, economic growth, and Westfield’s long-term quality of life.

This page will continue to grow over time with additional financial information, FAQs, data dashboards, explanations, and resources.

Understanding School Funding in Indiana

Indiana school finance is structured into separate funds with specific legal purposes.

  • Education Fund: Supports classroom instruction, teachers, academic programming, and learning resources.

  • Operations Fund: Supports transportation, utilities, maintenance, custodial services, and operational needs.

  • Debt Service Fund: Supports repayment of construction and facility projects.

Because these funds are regulated separately, money in one category often cannot simply be transferred to another.

More detail and additional finance explanations will be added in future updates.
