WWS Updates - June 19, 2020

  • Rocks Families,

Here are some updates for the week!  Have a great weekend!

    New Information

    Return of the Rocks

As you know, we have received reopening guidelines from the State and we are currently working to create the WWS Return of the Rocks reopening plan.  We do know that the 180-day requirement will remain in place and our intent is to begin school on schedule on Thursday, August 13.  While we know that we have asked for your flexibility as we plan, our goal is to maintain our approved school calendar for 2020-21.  We have committees evaluating health & safety, operations & transportation, and teaching & learning.  Committees include staff members and in some cases, parents. We are collaborating with other Hamilton County districts on a weekly basis to share ideas and to plan for a successful return to normal operations with precautions. Our committees will continue to work hard on our plan and this coming week we will be able to share our framework for returning to school.

Kindergarten Assessments - Welcome Class of ‘33!

We are excited  to share that we are moving  forward with kindergarten assessments this summer.  The plan is to hold assessments beginning mid-July.  Please look for communication from your school next week with specifics on dates and times. You will only be contacted for an appointment if you have registered   Health and safety protocols will be in place.

    Retrieving Personal Information from Lockers

We are planning to allow families/students to retrieve items left at school and drop off library/school-issued books the week of July 6.  Please look for communication from your school next week on specific dates/times/protocols on this process.

    Important Information - Food Service

Because we are transitioning food service providers, we will not be providing food service on Monday, June 29th.  We will begin with normal food service distribution on Thursday, July 2nd.

BAC Open for 2020-21 School Year

Westfield Washington Schools BAC program is designed to offer childcare before school, after school at each of our K-4 elementary schools and Zone 58 at Westfield Intermediate School for children in 5th grade through 13 years old.  Before/After Care and Zone 58 are planning to be open on August 12th and continue through the school year as scheduled. The program will be following guidelines from the CDC, state, and local authorities as well as Westfield Washington Schools. Find more information here

Registration for Summer Child Care closes today, Friday, June 19th. Remember that if we have less than twelve in a group, we won't be able to make a class. Currently there are enough children enrolled to have one class at each grade level from kindergarten through intermediate school but there are some families on a waiting list. At this point we do not have enough three- and four-year-old children registered to create a class for this level.  Find more information here

    Parent University Update

Planning is underway for the WWS Parent University 2020-2021 Back-To-School event.  More information to come.  If you have a specific topic or resource you would like Parent University to consider addressing, please email [email protected].
