Weekly Update - July 3, 2020
WWS Reopening Plan
WWS Committees on Teaching & Learning, Operations, and Health & Safety continue to meet and plan for students to return August 13! Our aim is to share our plans with you by the middle of next week! Our commitment to you is to provide as normal an operating environment as possible, with various precautions in place to put safety first for our students and staff. We believe that providing in-person instruction is the most powerful method of teaching and learning and we look forward to bringing our students and staff back together again soon. As we share our plan with you next week, we will be asking important questions related to transportation service and teaching & learning. Thank you for all of the feedback you have provided through our parent survey and by reaching out with questions and input.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Update
I wanted to provide you with an update about our district equity work. In a recent email message, I outlined actions that we would be taking as a school district. We have met with Dr. Renae Azziz, Dr. Sandy Washburn, and Deanna Nibarger asking their feedback for our plans to provide staff with knowledge, skills, and resources to better perform in their roles. Our WWS cabinet leadership team is recommending that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion be added as a priority area to our district strategic plan. We want to emphasize the importance that all work within our priority areas is interconnected. I have appreciated the many conversations with staff, parents, and community leaders as we build partnerships and allies of support for our actions that have been shared. As we build DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) teams at each school, department, and at the district level, we will include our allies as vital partners in accomplishing our actions.
Thank you for the questions that have come in to [email protected]. CogAT reports for students in grades K, 2, and 6 will be mailed home on July 15.
