Return of the Rocks - Message from Dr. Grate

As you know, the COVID-19 situation is evolving, which is making it extremely difficult to plan in these times of unprecedented uncertainty.  Last week, we released our reopening plans and, based on the most recent information, we will be revising those plans to ensure the safest possible learning environment for our students and staff.

We have begun to explore alternative options for our return to school.  We are looking at alternating days for all students, K through 12, so we can better ensure social distancing in classrooms, at recess, on buses and in the cafeteria.  The situation is ever-changing, and specific details are not finalized and will continue to evolve.  Principals and staff are working around the clock to create this alternative plan and we will be providing further details to families next week.  Be assured - we will make decisions that are in the best interest of all our stakeholders, prioritizing health - physical and emotional - and safety - for staff and students - in our learning environment.  It is important to note that we will still be providing a 100% virtual learning option for families that request it.

We understand you want answers. This is all uncharted territory, and we don't want to lock into a plan that proves to be outdated by the time we release it.  We pledge to share information as soon as decisions are made.  Remember - we are Shamrocks - and we will get through this together.

Virtual Learning - Survey Remains Open

Due to WWS weighing various return-to-school scenarios, the deadline for the Virtual Learning survey has been extended until details are shared with families. Many of you understandably have asked for more details before completing the survey and deciding to send your student in person, or sign him/her up for virtual learning.   As a reminder,  the survey links are below. Yes, you can change what you have submitted once details of the plan are released.

    Early Learning Center

The Westfield Washington School Board of Trustees voted 5-0 on Tuesday evening to move forward with plans for a dedicated early learning space for its infant through pre-K student program.  The district’s popular and successful early learning program currently occupies 21 classrooms over WWS’ six elementary buildings.  A standalone facility, planned for land already owned by the district at Monon Trail Elementary (19400 Tomlinson Rd, Westfield, IN 46074) will free up these elementary classrooms to meet the needs of the schools’ K-4 population.  Additionally, the new building will house the district’s administrative offices, which currently occupy leased space at 1143 E 181st St, Westfield, IN 46074. This cost, $120,000 annually, is money that can be returned to the classroom.

    Help Wanted!
