    Google Bootcamp/Google Level 1 Certification

    Session Presenter: Rosanna Ortiz, Innovation Specialist from Five Star Technology Solutions

    Location: OTES Community Room 

    June 14th and 15: 9am-3pm

    Our Title IV funds and partnership with 5 Star Technology Solutions gives us the ability to offer a WWS Google Bootcamp/Google Level 1 Certification.  The training is 6/14 and 6/15, 9-3, at OTES. At the end of the two days, you will receive a free voucher to take the Google Level 1 Certification Exam. Lunch is not provided, but there will be a one hour break for lunch on your own. If you are interested in attending, please also email Lynn Schemel directly as there are only 30 spots.  Lynn asks that if you do want to participate that you commit to both days and the exam since grant funds are being used. See more information here.

    Canvas - Just the Basics

    This session will teach you the basics of Canvas.  Topics in this session will focus on setting up your Canvas course, placing events on the calendar, and creating course announcements and Canvas pages.  Time will be spent learning how to upload images and files, embed videos, and link to and/or embed Google Docs/Slides/Drawings/Forms.

     

    Canvas - Beyond the Basics

    This session will go beyond the basics of Canvas.  Topics in this session will focus on creating assignments, quizzes, discussions, and rubrics as well as using the gradebook. Time will be spent learning about the various options offered for each of these amazing Canvas features.

    In this session, we'll discuss the big picture of Canvas and how an LMS can promote learning for your students. You’ll be guided through the steps to set up your Canvas course and use many of the features.

    K-4 teachers will use Google Classroom as their learning management system while 5-12 teachers will use Canvas. Come learn the basics about Google Classroom and get your classroom site ready for the school year. The Google Classroom platform allows for efficient and effective communication between you, your students, and parents. This hands-on opportunity will provide you with basics to post announcements, assignments, discussion blogs, resources, and more to promote collaboration, engagement, and immediate feedback.

     

    Google Drive and G Suite Basics

    In this session we’ll get to know Google Drive, which is where we store our Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawings, and Sites. Collectively, these tools are called G Suite for Education and they are powerful tools for learning and teaching!

     

    Chromebook Basics

    In this session we’ll compare three different types of computing: Local, Networked, and Cloud. Chromebooks utilize cloud computing to enable anywhere, anytime learning. By the end of this session, you be able to

    1. Explain why Cloud computing on Chromebooks allows students to login on any device.
    2. Demonstrate the process of logging in and out of a Chromebook.
    3. Describe the steps to launch the ISTEP or NWEA test on a Chromebook.
    4. Install Chrome apps and extensions.
    5. Recommend Chrome extensions for a particular educational use case.

     

    Taking G Suite to the Next Level

    Student Voice and Choice with Flipgrid, Padlet, and Dotstorming!

    Use any of these three programs to amplify student voice through both video and written discussion posts. Each program offers a unique way to incorporate student voice and choice into your classroom discussions!  No matter which option you use, students will be able to share their thoughts with their classmates and comment on each others’ posts! Don’t just ask questions... Instead, ignite student discussions with Flipgrid, Padlet, and Dotstorming!

     

    Engage Students with Interactive Lessons using PearDeck and DeckToys!

    Engage every student in the classroom!  With PearDeck and DeckToys, you present your lesson using a wide variety of engaging features!  Students will become active and willing participants throughout your lesson, and you can monitor everything via your teacher computer!  You can choose to go through the lesson together as a class (teacher-led) or allow students to progress through the lesson at their own pace (student-led).  Both programs offer unique options that will enhance any lesson - for any content - at any grade level!

    We’ll look at popular edtech apps such as Padlet, Flipgrid, Adobe Spark, and others. You’ll get a chance to try these tools out as well as see how to integrate them into Canvas and Google Classroom.

     

    Organize Your Digital Life

    Reading and Writing Accessibility on iPads

    In this session you will learn the latest accessibility features of iOS11 and have hands on experience using up to date apps for writing and completing handouts and for reading on the ipad. We will also discuss instructional strategies for making your curriculum more accessible to all students. This session is geared towards gen ed teachers and spEd teachers who want to meet the needs of students with different learning styles, students who are ELL, and/or students who have difficulty accessing text/curriculum in the traditional format.

    In this session you will get an overview of the WWS processes for an AT observation or evaluation as well as learn what Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) are, how they can benefit our students with reading, physical, or vision difficulties, and how to provide them to your students. You will learn how to document AT and AEM in the IEP. This session is geared towards SpEd staff.

     

    Self-directed IEPs

    The self directed IEP is an evidenced-based instructional practice that teaches students to become active participants in their IEP meetings. Self-determination needs to be seen as a developmental process from early childhood through adulthood. Self-determination skills need to be taught at the elementary as well as secondary grade levels. Templates will be shared at this session and it is for teachers of students with IEPs at all grade levels. Creative strategies for increasing IEP participation for all students will be shared. This session is geared towards SpEd staff.
